Solar roof planner
Find your house on the satellite map and trace your roof. We fit panels around the water tank and stairs, space the rows for winter sun, and show how many units your roof can make each month.
- Zoom in to your roof
- Click each corner, then the first one again
- Mark the water tank or stair room
- See panels and power
How the planner works
- Your outline is measured on the map, so the roof area is in real square metres and square feet.
- Panels are placed in rows that face south, or along the roof edge if you choose, keeping your chosen gap from every edge and 30 cm from anything you mark.
- Row spacing uses the height of the sun at noon on 21 December at your latitude, so rows do not shade each other in winter.
- Monthly units come from PVGIS for your roof’s exact location, tilt and direction.
- Cost uses today’s installed price per kW, last checked 2026-10-22. Get at least three quotes.
Common questions
- How many solar panels fit on a 5 marla roof?
- A 5 marla house has roughly 1,000 to 1,100 sq ft of roof. After the water tank, stair room, edge gaps and row spacing, that usually fits 10 to 16 panels of 585 W, about 6 to 9 kW. Draw your own roof for an exact count.
- Why are there gaps between the rows?
- A tilted panel casts a shadow behind it. The planner spaces rows so the front row does not shade the next one at noon on the shortest day of the year, when the sun is lowest.
- Where does the sunlight data come from?
- From PVGIS, the European Commission's free solar database, for the exact spot of your roof, at your chosen tilt and direction, with 14% allowed for system losses.
- Does it include shade from trees and buildings?
- No. Mark anything on the roof itself, such as a water tank or stair room. Ask your installer to check shade from trees and neighbouring buildings, especially in winter.
A planning guide only. An installer must check the roof’s strength, shade and wiring before you buy.
